Tags in Hummerce are free-form labels that can be assigned to an item, a category, a customer or an order - technically they work like regular store properties, but with their own dictionary, suggestions and synonym support. This lets a store, for example, label items with seasonal or thematic tags, or add content that's useful for search and SEO.
As of Hummerce: a core platform feature - available in all current versions.
¶ Benefits and use cases
- Free-form labels on items and other objects - without changing the category structure, a tag can be added to an item, a category, a customer or an order.
- Organized tag categories - each tag category has its own dictionary and rules, so "seasonal tags" and "sport tags" don't mix with each other.
- Suggestions while typing - a panel user sees suggestions of tags already used in a given category or in a shared category.
- Synonyms - typing "christmas-y" can be automatically replaced with the standardized tag "christmas", without manually cleaning up the data.
- Multi-language - different tags for the same object can be defined for each store language.
- Extra content for SEO and search - once display is implemented, tags can feed the internal search engine, a tag cloud, or item filtering.
- A tag category is a special kind of property category - it's created the same way as other properties, by choosing the Tags type.
- One object can have several tags from the same category, and the same tags in different categories don't collide with each other.
- Every category has its own tag dictionary - it can be used to restrict entered tags to the allowed ones, or only suggest values not yet used.
- Settings available when editing a tag category:
- Origin - whether a tag outside the category's dictionary can be added, or only ones from the allowed list.
- Visibility - whether all of an object's tags are shown in the store, or only the ones from the category's dictionary.
- Lexical entry - whether every new tag added to an object is also added to the category's dictionary.
- Synonyms - whether an entered tag matching a defined synonym should be automatically replaced with the target tag.
- Every category has a Source definition field - a comma-separated list of category symbols that suggestions are pulled from while typing tags.
- A
! sign before a category symbol in the source restricts suggestions to that category's dictionary only (without tags already used on other objects).
- Example: the source
tagiSwiateczne, !tagiSportowe suggests all tags from the tagiSwiateczne category, plus only dictionary tags from the tagiSportowe category.
- The synonym base can be shared across all categories (the General category), or assigned to one specific category.
- Synonyms can only be defined for values already saved in a given category's dictionary.
Tags are a core feature of the Hummerce platform - they work in all current versions.
- A tag category is an extension of the property mechanism - it needs to be configured like other properties (Properties and locations).
- Displaying tags in the store (a tag cloud, filtering, sending them to the search engine) requires additional implementation in the template.
- Creating a tag category and tagging objects works after the update - this is panel work, without code changes.
- Showing tags in the store (a tag list on the product, a tag cloud, filtering by tags) requires implementation in the template.
- Minimum estimated time:
- creating a tag category and assigning it to a location - from 1 h,
- showing tags on the product card or a list - quoted individually once the scope is agreed.
- What the time depends on: the number of tag categories, whether synonyms and dictionaries are needed, the scope of template changes (display, filtering, search).
- Tags don't appear in the store on their own - showing them to the customer (a list, a cloud, filtering) requires separate implementation in the template.
- Suggestions only work based on the configured source - no results suggests an incorrectly set Source definition for the category.
- A synonym can only be defined for a value already in the category's dictionary.
- We do not verify tags for legal compliance (e.g. advertising content or labeling required by regulation).
- Ready-made Bootstrap 5 template components for displaying and filtering by tags without additional implementation.
Are tags visible in the store as soon as they're added?
No. Tags first need to be implemented in the template (e.g. as a list on the product or a filter) - simply adding a tag to an item in the panel doesn't show it to the customer.
Can one item have tags from several different categories?
Yes, and it can even have the same tag in two different tag categories - categories don't mix with each other.
Can tags differ between store languages?
Yes, a different tag for the same object can be defined for each language.
Can typos and spelling variants of a tag be standardized automatically?
Yes, through synonyms - an entered tag matching a defined synonym is replaced with the target tag from the category's dictionary.
How long does it take to set tags up in a store?
Creating the category and tagging objects in the panel - from 1 h. Showing tags to customers in the store is quoted individually once the scope is agreed.
