GLS in Hummerce is a file-exchange-based courier integration: the store exports data for selected orders to a file for the GLS system, and after the shipments are handed over, it imports the waybill numbers back. It's a simpler mechanism than real-time integrations (e.g. InPost, DHL24) - there's no automatic label or status creation directly in the store.

¶ Benefits and use cases
- Exporting selected orders to a file with the data GLS needs (recipient data, weight, cash on delivery, add-on services) - with no manual re-typing.
- Importing the tracking number back onto the order once the parcels are handed over in the GLS system.
- An automatic email to the customer with shipment notification and a tracking link on the GLS site.
- An optional automatic change of the order's delivery status once the tracking number is assigned.
- Support for cash on delivery in the exported order data.
- In the panel, on the Transfer to GLS tab, orders ready to ship are selected and an export file is generated with the data the courier needs: recipient data, address, phone, order symbol, shipment weight, cash-on-delivery information and chosen add-on services.
- The module calculates the shipment weight based on the weight of the items in the order.
- The file goes to the GLS system over FTP - access data and the target directory are set up during the integration's implementation.
- After the parcels are handed over in the GLS system, the store imports a file with the returned waybill numbers, matching them to orders by order symbol.
- The import can optionally overwrite an existing tracking number and change the order's delivery status to shipped.
- Once a tracking number is assigned, the store can automatically send the customer an email with a tracking link (an address built from a template with the tracking number).
- Unlike InPost or DHL24, GLS doesn't create the shipment and label directly from the Hummerce panel in real time - labels are only created in the GLS system after the file is imported.
- The store doesn't automatically fetch shipment statuses from GLS - the customer tracks the parcel through the link sent by email to the GLS site.
The file-based GLS integration has been present in the platform for a long time - the exact version it was introduced isn't stated in the available sources (there's no version note or technical wiki page for it).
- A contract with GLS and FTP access for file exchange (host, user, password, directory) - the store arranges these on its own.
- An export file column layout agreed with GLS - adjusted at implementation to match the specific contract's requirements.
- Weight on items - to correctly calculate the shipment weight.
- General rules for delivery methods - Delivery methods overview.
- Requires implementation - the integration doesn't work without configuration. Scope:
- enabling the GLS module and configuring FTP access,
- adjusting the export file's column layout to match the specific GLS contract,
- configuring the tracking-number import,
- an email template with the tracking link,
- testing on sample orders.
- Minimum estimated time: from 4 h.
- What the time depends on: whether the default column layout matches the specific GLS contract's requirements (layout changes add time), how tracking numbers are imported (manual or scheduled).
- The integration is based on FTP file exchange, not the REST API - there's no creating shipments and labels directly from the panel in real time.
- Shipping labels are created in the GLS system after the file is imported, not in Hummerce.
- No automatic shipment-status fetching (in transit, delivered) - the customer tracks the shipment on the GLS site through the sent link.
- Importing tracking numbers requires a matching file format (column order and length) - a format change on GLS's side requires a configuration update.
- No management of the GLS integration through the REST API and MCP - handled only in the panel.
- We do not verify the task for legal compliance (e.g. licenses of submitted materials, GDPR, store terms of service).
- A real-time (REST API) integration with automatic shipment creation, labels and statuses, similar to InPost and DHL24.
- Managing the integration's settings through the API and MCP.
Does Hummerce create GLS labels automatically?
No. The store exports order data to a file, and labels are created in the GLS system after it's imported.
Does the tracking number get added to the order automatically?
Yes, through importing the file with returned tracking numbers from the GLS system.
Does the customer get a GLS tracking link?
Yes, by email, once the tracking number is assigned to the order.
Does GLS support cash on delivery?
Yes, cash-on-delivery information is part of the exported order data.
How long does implementing the GLS integration take?
From 4 h - more, if the file layout needs to be adjusted to an individual GLS contract.
Does the GLS integration work in real time like InPost or DHL24?
No. It's file exchange over FTP, with no automatic shipment statuses in the store.

- Integration configuration: Configuration -> the GLS shipment module group - Encoding of the imported file, Extension of the exported file, Date format for the generated file, GLS address template (for the tracking link), Overwrite tracking number, Change delivery status, Send email after tracking number is assigned, Message title, Order email address template.
- Panel: the Transfer to GLS tab - the list of orders to export, order selection, file generation; a separate transfer for importing tracking numbers ("GLS tracking number import").
- FTP access data for exchanging files with GLS is set up during the integration's implementation (outside the standard panel configuration).
¶ REST API and MCP
- None. The integration works through exporting and importing a file in the panel, not through the REST API or MCP.
- The title and content of the tracking-number email are set in the module's configuration (address and message-title templates), not in the standard email template editor.
