¶ Default delivery and payment - cart selection
Default delivery and payment in Hummerce is a mechanism that automatically preselects a delivery and payment method for the customer in the cart - first the one they last chose, and failing that the pair set as default in the store configuration. This means the customer doesn't have to pick the same options every time, and the cart always shows a working delivery-payment pair.

¶ Benefits and use cases
- Faster checkout for repeat customers - they don't choose delivery and payment again with every order.
- Consistent experience even without logging in - in the same browser, the cart remembers the last chosen delivery and payment method.
- A safe fallback - when the customer has no earlier choice yet, or the configured pair is no longer available, the cart still shows a working delivery and payment method instead of an empty choice.
- The delivery and payment last chosen in this browser (remembered via cookies) - for a customer who isn't logged in or is returning to the cart.
- For a logged-in customer - the delivery and payment saved on their account after their last placed order; these return automatically after login, even on another device.
- When none of the above is available, or the previously chosen delivery or payment is no longer active, visible or allowed in the current configuration - the cart shows the delivery and payment set as default in the store configuration.
- When even the configured default delivery or payment is inactive or not visible, the store automatically picks the first active and visible entry from the list - the cart always shows a working pair.
- A logged-in customer's choice is saved to their account only once the order is placed - changing delivery or payment in the cart without completing the order doesn't save it to the account.
- The saved choice returns after login on any device, regardless of that browser's cookies.
- A core platform mechanism - works in all current Hummerce versions.
- 2.32 - fix for saving default delivery and payment settings: from this version they're saved independently of the logged-in customer's browser session.
- Delivery and payment method configuration - Delivery methods - overview, Payments.
- Possible delivery-payment combinations (the Possible payments field on a delivery method) - restrict which pair can be chosen, including as the default.
- Remembering the choice for a logged-in customer requires customer accounts in the store.
- Works right after an update - the mechanism is part of the platform, with no additional development work.
- Only requires setting a default delivery and a default payment method in the store configuration; without it, the store still picks the first active and visible entry from the list.
- Minimum estimated time: setting the default delivery and payment - from 0.5 h (panel settings).
- The store doesn't automatically check whether the configured default delivery and default payment together form a possible, allowed pair - they're chosen independently, so the administrator setting the defaults should check this themselves.
- Browser memory (cookies) only works on one device - a customer without an account who switches browsers or clears their data goes back to the default pair.
- A logged-in customer's choice is only saved once the order is placed, not on the change itself in the cart.
- We do not verify the configuration for legal compliance - choosing the default delivery and payment, including cookie information, is set by the store.
- A panel warning when the configured default delivery and payment don't form a possible pair.
- Choosing which of several previously used variants to restore - today only one, the most recent, is restored.
Does Hummerce remember the customer's previously chosen delivery and payment method?
Yes. The cart first suggests the last chosen pair - from the customer's account after login, or from cookies in the same browser.
Does the remembered choice work on another device?
Yes, for a logged-in customer - the choice is saved to the account once the order is placed and returns on login on another device. For a guest, memory only works in the same browser.
What happens when the configured default delivery becomes unavailable?
The store automatically picks the first active and visible delivery method (and, similarly, payment method), so the cart always shows a working pair.
Does the store check that the default delivery and payment can be chosen together?
Not fully automatically - delivery and payment are chosen independently, so the administrator setting the defaults should check that such a pair is allowed.
How long does setting the default delivery and payment take?
From 0.5 h - it's a panel setting, with no development work.
Want to check how default delivery and payment could work in your store? Contact the Hummerce team (in Polish).
- Configuration -> Settings: Default delivery, Default payment.
- Delivery/payment edit screen: the Display in web store, Please select, Possible payments (on a delivery method) fields - decide whether a given entry can be chosen at all, including as the default.
¶ REST API and MCP
- The customer's saved choice is a regular customer parameter - available through the REST API and MCP like any other customer parameter (REST API, Properties and locations).
