¶ Configurations and purchases - buying product components
Configurations and purchases is how Hummerce links the sale of a configurable product to the Purchases module: when a customer buys a set, each of its elements goes into purchases as a separate line, in the quantity that follows from the order placed. This lets the purchasing department see the real demand for components, not just the name of the finished set.

¶ Benefits and use cases
- Purchasing sees the real makeup of the set - a purchase line is created for the configurable product and for each of its components added as a separate order line, not just for the name of the finished set.
- Component quantity in the purchase follows from the configuration - it's the product quantity times the Rate of amounts set on the component (rounded down to whole units), not a value typed in by hand by the purchasing department.
- One purchasing mechanism for the whole catalog - the same purchase carts, suppliers, statuses and goods receipts handle both regular items and configuration components (Purchases and goods receipt).
- When a configured product is added to the cart, components with the Add to basket as other positions setting become order sub-items, in the quantity: product quantity times Rate of amounts, rounded down to whole units.
- Once the order is placed, the Purchases module creates a purchase line for every order line - including the configurable product and each component sub-item - exactly as it does for a regular item.
- A component without the Add to basket as other positions setting (e.g. text, engraving, a service added to the configuration) doesn't have its own order line, so it doesn't reach purchases.
- The rest of the flow - purchase cart, assigning a supplier, statuses, receiving on the warehouse, archive and PDF export - is identical to regular purchases; full description: Purchases and goods receipt.
- Selling a configurable product with components as separate order lines - a core platform feature.
- The Purchases module, which turns these lines into purchases from suppliers - from version 2.35 (purchase list, PDF export).
- Works once the configurator and the Purchases module are live - it requires no separate integration or extra configuration beyond implementing both mechanisms on their own.
- The purchase list doesn't calculate material use from the configuration on its own (e.g. running metres, area) - a component's purchase line is the number of units following from the order (product quantity times the ratio, rounded down), not a conversion to another unit of consumption.
- The component quantity is rounded down to whole units - a fractional ratio combined with a small product quantity can produce a purchase of 0 units of the component.
- A component without the Add to basket as other positions setting doesn't have its own order line and doesn't reach purchases.
- Editing an order in the panel doesn't recalculate components when the product quantity changes - purchases are created from the order lines, so they inherit this limitation.
- We do not verify the task for legal compliance (e.g. licenses of submitted materials, GDPR, store terms of service).
- Calculating material use from the configuration (e.g. length, area, weight) instead of just the number of component units.
- Automatically recalculating the purchase when an order is edited after a change to the configurable product's quantity.
Do purchases account for the components of a configurable product?
Yes. The Purchases module creates a separate purchase line for the product and for each component added as a separate order line.
Is the component quantity in the purchase a calculated material use?
No. It's the number of component units from the order (product quantity times the rate of amounts, rounded down), not a conversion to metres or area.
Do purchases for configurators need to be implemented separately?
No. If the configurator and the Purchases module are both live, the mechanism works with no extra work.
What about components without their own cart line, e.g. engraving or a service?
They don't reach purchases - only components with the Add to basket as other positions setting are included.
