¶ Configuration in the cart and order
Configuration in the cart and order in Hummerce doesn't end on the product page - a configured product goes into the cart and the order with its full configuration, and the chosen components can be separate sub-lines. This way the warehouse, purchasing and ERP see the actually sold elements, not just the set's name, while production and support staff get the full configuration on the order line, without having to ask the customer again.
As of Hummerce 2.35 (latest module changes: 2.35.50), updated 2026-09-28.
¶ Benefits and use cases
- The store won't accept a configuration it can't fulfill - a missing component item stops the order before payment.
- Component stock changes automatically when sets are sold - no manual breakdown of the set in the warehouse.
- ERP gets the order in a form it understands - component lines, with or without the set's own line.
- Production gets the full configuration and a print-ready PDF on the order line.
- Returns match what the customer bought - the whole set, not individual elements.
- When adding to the cart, the store checks the configuration:
- the product exists and is a configurable product,
- all required components are filled in,
- the item in the component is on the allowed list and can be bought in the needed quantity,
- a component with properties has a value entered.
- An invalid configuration doesn't reach the cart - the customer gets a message, and if any component is unavailable, the whole product doesn't reach the cart either.
- The price is recalculated from scratch on the server - prices sent from the browser are ignored (Configuration pricing).
- The cart gets:
- a main line - the configurable product with its full configuration,
- sub-lines - items from components with the Add to basket as other positions setting. Components without this setting (e.g. text, an engraving, a service) stay inside the main line's configuration.
- Component quantity = product quantity times Rate of amounts (times the quantity entered by the customer, if the component allows it). The result is rounded down to whole units.
- A component can itself be a configurable product - its components then also reach the cart.
- A configurable product shows its sub-lines (components) and an Edit link to change the configuration (Saved configurations).
- The customer changes the quantity of the whole product - component quantities recalculate on their own. A component's quantity can't be changed separately.
- A component can't be removed from the cart separately when its price is included in the product's price or when sub-lines are hidden.
- The Hide static slots in cart setting hides set components with no configurator (sets with a fixed structure).
- Minimum and maximum quantities and multiples of items don't apply by default to configurable products and their components.
- Lines from the cart carry over to the order with the configuration and the product/component split.
- Once the order is placed, the configuration is marked as ordered and linked to the order.
- In the panel, the line shows configuration parameters, a full configuration preview, and for personalization - a print-ready PDF file and its preparation status.
- Editing the order in the panel changes the product and components like regular lines - without reconfiguring or recalculating the components (Order management in the panel).
¶ Warehouse, purchasing and delivery
- Warehouse stock is checked separately for every order line - the configurable product and each component that's a sub-line.
- Only components added as separate lines affect stock. A component without that setting has no line, so it doesn't change stock.
- A configurable product with stock management enabled needs its own stock - usually stock management is turned off on the product and run on the components instead.
- In the configurator, the customer only sees items available to buy (for 1 unit). Availability for a larger quantity is checked when adding to the cart.
- A component is added in the item's default sales unit (or the stock unit, if there's no default).
- The purchasing module creates purchase lines for every order line - including for the configurable product and its components.
- The weight used for delivery cost is the sum of all lines' weights - the product's and the components'. If weight is entered both on the product and on the components, it will be added up twice. The product's dimensions aren't calculated from the components.
¶ ERP and other systems
| Integration |
How the configuration is carried |
| Business Central |
product and components as order lines; an option for whether to also send the configurable product's own line |
| Navision (Web Service) |
same as Business Central - an option to send the product's own line |
| Navision (older integration) |
optionally an extra line with the full configuration and the PDF file's address |
| XML order export |
lines marked with the parent product and their properties, including the configuration - depending on export settings |
| BaseLinker, Allegro |
orders imported into the store have regular lines, without the configuration |
- The customer returns the whole configurable product - components aren't returned separately (Returns - withdrawal from the contract).
- Products made to the customer's order (e.g. with personalization) can be excluded from returns with the Not returnable flag.
- A core platform feature - available in all supported versions.
- Since version 2.33 - editing the configuration from the cart in the Bootstrap 5 template; sending to Business Central with the choice of whether to pass the set's own line.
- Since version 2.35 - returns of configurable products in the returns module.
- Latest module changes: version 2.35.50.
- A configurable product with components (Configurable product - types and structure).
- The Add to basket as other positions setting on components that should affect stock and reach ERP.
- Weights on the components or on the product - not on both.
- An ERP integration that supports parent and child lines.
- The returns module - for returns of configurable products.
- Works once configurable products are set up - the cart, order, warehouse and returns don't need separate work. Implementation is needed for:
- fitting the configuration's presentation in the cart, emails and documents to the store's look,
- setting up how the configuration is passed to ERP,
- agreeing on warehouse rules (stock on the product or on the components, weights).
- Minimum estimated time:
- presenting the configuration in the cart and the order email - from 4 h,
- passing the configuration to ERP in an existing integration - from 4 h.
- The time for a specific implementation depends on its scope - we quote it individually.
- What the time depends on:
- the store template and the number of email templates,
- the ERP integration - whether it supports parent lines, or needs changes on the ERP side (quoted separately),
- warehouse requirements (e.g. availability per chosen component and multiple warehouses - quoted separately).
- Component quantity is rounded down to whole units - a fractional factor (e.g. 0.5) with a small product quantity can give 0 units of the component.
- The warehouse doesn't break down the set into components on its own - only components added as separate lines affect stock.
- Component availability in the configurator is checked for 1 unit and the default warehouse - a larger quantity or a different warehouse may only be rejected when adding to the cart.
- A component is always in its default sales unit - the customer can't choose a different unit for the component.
- Weight adds up the product and the components; package dimensions aren't calculated from the configuration.
- Editing the order in the panel doesn't recalculate components when the product quantity changes.
- Returns only apply to the whole configurable product.
- Orders from BaseLinker and Allegro don't contain the configuration.
- There's no stock reservation for sets.
- We do not verify the task for legal compliance (e.g. licenses of supplied materials, GDPR, store terms and conditions).
- Availability in the configurator calculated for the chosen quantity and multiple warehouses.
- A set broken down into components in the warehouse without separate cart lines.
- Package dimensions and weight calculated from the configuration (e.g. molding length, area).
- A component purchase list resulting from the configuration (e.g. material usage).
- Returning selected components of a set.
Do configuration components affect warehouse stock separately?
Yes, but only the ones added as separate cart sub-lines (the Add to basket as other positions setting). A component without this setting has no line of its own and doesn't change stock.
Does ERP get the full configuration or just the set's name?
Depends on the integration - Business Central and Navision (Web Service) let you choose whether to send the configurable product's own line alongside the component lines; the older Navision integration can add a separate line with the full configuration and the PDF file's address.
Can an order with components be returned partially?
No. The customer returns the whole configurable product, components aren't returned separately. Products made to the customer's order (e.g. with personalization) can be excluded from returns.
Do orders from Allegro or BaseLinker contain the configuration?
No, orders imported from those channels have regular lines, without the configuration.
How long does it take to fit the configuration's presentation in the cart and order email?
From 4 h. Passing the configuration to ERP in an existing integration - also from 4 h; the time for a specific implementation depends on its scope.
Does editing the order in the panel recalculate components after changing the product quantity?
No - editing the order changes lines like regular items, without reconfiguring or recalculating the components.

¶ REST API and MCP
- MCP (AI assistant - MCP server):
ec2_order_items and the analytics tools show the order's main lines (without components); ec2_cart_price_preview prices a cart, ec2_cart_save_and_link saves a cart with a link for the customer (for presets).
Content is changed in the message editor, email content - in Email templates and alerts. How the configuration line looks in the order email depends on the store's email template.
