¶ Message editor - store text and translations
The message editor in Hummerce lets you change every text shown in the store and in the panel - in every store language - with no developer's help and no template change. This means store staff can fix a typo, adjust terminology, or fill in a missing translation on their own.
Last updated: 2026-10-07. The message editor is a core platform feature - available in every current store version. Managing messages through the AI assistant - from version 2.35.62 (latest changes: 2.35.63).
¶ Benefits and use cases
- Change any text in the store and panel (labels, error messages, field descriptions) with no developer's help and no implementation.
- Separate values for each store language - the platform's default text is shown wherever the store hasn't added its own version.
- A separate message database per store - several independent stores can have different text for the same key.
- Quickly finding a missing translation - a key with no value in a given language is visible in the list.
- Handled by the AI assistant - from version 2.35.62 store texts can also be read and changed through the AI assistant, so moving an implementation between stores doesn't require fixing messages by hand in the panel.
- The list shows message keys: Symbol, the default value (shown wherever the store has no text of its own) and the values in the selected languages.
- The search box above the list searches by key symbol - it doesn't search message content.
- The language filter lets you pick one, several, or all store languages and show only their columns (the Show button).
- The list is paginated (10, 25, 50 or 100 items per page by default).
- The Get current messages button fetches every key currently used in the store from the storefront application and saves them as default values - both the panel and the storefront application must be running for the editor to work correctly.
¶ Adding and changing a value
- A key with no value in the selected language shows a + sign - clicking it opens a field to enter text.
- After entering and confirming, the value is saved for that key and language; the store shows the new text once the message cache is refreshed.
- A saved value can later be overwritten by selecting the same key again.
- Missing text in a given language shows up in the store as the key itself, in the form
???key???, instead of readable content - a sign that a value needs to be added in the message editor for that language.
- This most often applies to labels and descriptions added during implementation (e.g. new parameters or settings) that don't yet have a translation into every store language.
Messages and their overrides are stored separately for each store (application) - an implementation covering several independent stores can have different text for the same key in each one, with no change to shared code.
- The message editor is a core platform feature - available in every current store version.
- Reading and writing messages through the AI assistant (MCP) - from version 2.35.62; batch writing and removing an override - from version 2.35.63.
- Requires store languages to be configured (Multilanguage) - the number of value columns matches the number of languages.
- Fetching current messages requires the storefront application to be running, independently of the panel.
- A change to become visible in the store may require refreshing the message cache.
- The message editor works after updating - it's part of the platform and needs no implementation.
- Adding a missing translation or fixing text is panel work, with no developer involved.
- Minimum estimated time: fixing or adding a single message - a few minutes; filling in translations after a bigger implementation (e.g. a new module) - from 1 h, depending on the number of new keys.
- What the time depends on: the number of messages to fill in and the number of store languages.
- The list's search box only searches by key symbol - it doesn't search message content, so finding the text to change requires knowing or looking up the key.
- The editor only shows and saves messages already used in the store or panel - new text with no matching spot in the code or template can't be added on its own.
- Fetching current messages requires the panel and the storefront to run at the same time.
- We do not verify the task for legal compliance (e.g. licenses of submitted materials, GDPR, store terms of service).
- Searching messages by content, not only by key symbol.
- A preview of where in the store a given message is used.
Does changing text in the store require a developer's help?
No, as long as the text already has a message key assigned - store staff change it themselves in the message editor.
Does every store language have its own text?
Yes. A message has a default value plus a separate value for each store language; no own value shows the default value.
Can a message be found by its content rather than its key symbol?
No. The list's search box only searches by key symbol.
Can two independent stores have different text for the same key?
Yes. Messages and their overrides are stored separately for each store.
Can the AI assistant change messages?
Yes, from version 2.35.62. The assistant reads and writes the store's text overrides with its account's permissions, just like the Contents -> Messages screen. From version 2.35.63 it can also write many messages at once and remove an override so the key returns to the factory text.
Can messages be imported or exported as a file?
Yes, with the Messages (xls-Excel) transfer in the Data transfer menu - see Data transfer.
How long does adding a missing translation take?
A single message - a few minutes in the panel. Filling in translations after a bigger implementation - from 1 h, depending on the number of new keys.

- Message list and editing: Admin Panel, Contents -> Messages.
- Search by key symbol, a language filter (choose one, several or all) with a Show button, pagination (10/25/50/100).
- Get current messages button - fetches keys currently used from the storefront and saves them as default values.
¶ REST API and MCP
From version 2.35.62 messages are also managed by the AI assistant through the MCP server. The tools require the permission for the message editor (reading - the view permission, writing and removing - update):
ec2_messages_get - shows the text overrides in the given store: all of them, or for a chosen key (a key fragment is enough) and language. A key that isn't listed isn't overridden - its text comes from the files shipped with the release.
ec2_messages_set - sets the text for a key and language (without a language - the value every language falls back on) or, from version 2.35.63, many messages at once as a list of entries with a key, a value and optionally a language. After saving, the store's message cache is cleared, so the new text works immediately. An empty value is stored as -, not as no override.
ec2_messages_delete - removes an override so the key returns to the text shipped with the release (from version 2.35.63). Without confirmation it only shows what would be removed; you can remove one language, the shared value, or all languages of a key.
The message editor itself is used to change all other store text - its own labels (e.g. the screen title, the Get current messages and Show buttons) have factory-set default values and don't need to be filled in.
The message editor changes interface labels and static text. Values assigned to specific objects (e.g. a product name, category description, page content) in each language are changed when editing those objects, or through Properties and locations, not in the message editor.
