Recently viewed in Hummerce automatically remembers the products a customer has browsed in the store and reminds them with a carousel - usually on the product page. The customer gets back faster to products that caught their interest, without searching the categories or search engine again.
Last updated: 2026-09-29. Recently viewed is a base platform feature - available in all current store versions.
¶ Benefits and use cases
- Quick return to viewed products - the customer doesn't have to search for them again in the store.
- Works for a non-logged-in guest too - the browsing history is remembered in the session and in a browser cookie.
- A hint for the next purchase step directly on the product page, with no work from store staff.
- Visiting a product page saves the product in the customer's session and in a browser cookie.
- Non-logged-in customer - the history comes back on the next visit to the store, as long as the browser keeps the session and the cookie.
- Logged-in customer - at login the module merges the data from the cookie with the history saved in the customer account and shows the full list of recently viewed products.
¶ Where and how many products are shown
- The Recently viewed carousel appears on the product page by default.
- The number of products shown is limited (10 most recent by default) - this is a module setting, configured during implementation, not in the panel.
- The visibility of variants and articles in the carousel depends on the store settings Variants on the lists and Articles on the lists (Web store navigation group) - with variants on lists turned off, the carousel shows the parent article instead of the variant (see Variants - article and sub-items).
Recently viewed is a base platform feature - available in all current store versions, in the Bootstrap 5 and Bootstrap 4 templates.
- The product carousel needs room in the product page template.
- Remembering a non-logged-in customer's history depends on cookie support in the browser.
- The visibility of variants and articles in the carousel depends on the Web store navigation settings (Virtual categories).
- Recently viewed works after an update - it's part of the platform and doesn't require implementation in the standard configuration.
- Changing the number of products shown, or adding the carousel elsewhere in the template, requires editing the module configuration and/or the template.
- Minimum estimated time: changing the number of products shown - from 1 h; adding the carousel elsewhere in the template - from 2 h.
- What the time depends on: the number of places in the template where the carousel should appear, and whether it needs custom styling.
- The number of products shown and the carousel's place in the template have no panel setting - changing them requires implementation.
- A non-logged-in guest's history depends on the browser cookie - clearing cookies erases the history.
- Store staff have no view of individual customers' browsing history in the panel.
- We do not verify the task for legal compliance (e.g. licenses of submitted materials, GDPR, store terms of service).
- Setting the number of products shown and the carousel's placement in the panel, without implementation.
- Viewing a customer's browsing history in the admin panel.
Do non-logged-in guests also see recently viewed products?
Yes. A guest's history is saved in the session and in a browser cookie.
Does the history from a guest's session merge with the account after login?
Yes. At login the module merges the data from the cookie with the history saved in the customer account.
Can the number of products shown be changed in the panel?
No. The number of products (10 by default) is a module setting, configured during implementation, not in the panel.
Do product variants appear in the recently viewed carousel?
It depends on the store's Variants on the lists setting - with variants on lists turned off, the carousel shows the parent article instead of the variant.
How long does changing the number of products shown or the carousel's placement take?
Changing the number of products - from 1 h. Adding the carousel elsewhere in the template - from 2 h.
Want to see how recently viewed products could work in your store? Contact the Hummerce team (in Polish).
