Login change in Hummerce makes sure that changing the email address in a customer's profile doesn't cut them off from their account. When the store uses the email address as the login, simply typing a new address doesn't change the login data yet - the customer has to confirm the new address by link before the login actually changes.
As of Hummerce 2.35.1, updated 2026-10-07.
¶ Benefits and use cases
- No loss of account access - a typo in the entered address, or an interrupted change, doesn't lock the customer out on the old login.
- Fewer requests to store staff - the customer finishes the change themselves by clicking the link in the email.
- Matters in stores with the Email as login setting enabled, where the email address is also the customer's login.
- When a customer changes their email address in the profile, the store also asks for their current password.
- The new login doesn't take effect right away - a message with a confirmation link is sent to the new email address.
- Only clicking the link in the email changes the customer's login to the new address. Until then, the customer still logs in with the existing login.
- From version 2.35.1, an icon with a tooltip appears next to the login field in the customer profile: "To change the login, change the e-mail address and then confirm the change via the link sent to the new e-mail". The icon is only visible when the login change after email update setting is on. In the Bootstrap 5 template it does not appear when changing the email is blocked (e.g. with login through an external provider).
Available from Hummerce version 2.34. The tooltip next to the login field in the customer profile - from version 2.35.1.
- Requires the Email as login setting (the customer's login is the email address) - without it, changing the login through an email change doesn't apply.
- Requires an email template with a confirmation link, configured in the store.
- Works after an update - the mechanism is part of the platform. Turning it on only requires a panel setting and checking the confirmation-link email template.
- Minimum estimated time: from 1 h (turning on the setting, checking and possibly adjusting the email content, testing the login change).
- Applies only to stores with the Email as login setting - in other stores the login and email are separate data, so an email change doesn't require login confirmation.
- Until the confirmation link is clicked, the customer logs in with the old address - if they no longer have access to it, the change has to be handled manually.
- We do not verify the task for legal compliance (e.g. licenses of submitted materials, GDPR, store terms of service).
- The option for store staff to force a login change manually in the panel, without the customer's involvement.
Does changing the email address in the profile change the customer's login right away?
No. The login only changes after clicking the confirmation link sent to the new address.
Does this feature apply to every store?
No, only to stores with the Email as login setting enabled, where the email address is the customer's login.
How does the customer know how to change the login?
Next to the login field in the profile there is an icon with a tooltip: to change the login, change the email and confirm the change with the link sent to the new address (from version 2.35.1).
What happens if the customer doesn't confirm the new address?
The login stays unchanged, and the customer keeps logging in with the existing address.
How long does turning on this feature take?
From 1 h - turning on the panel setting and checking the confirmation-link email template.

- Configuration -> Settings, the Customers group:
- Email as login - the customer's login is automatically copied from their email address,
- Change login after email update - turns on confirming the new login by link.
- Customer profile (store front): an extra field for the current password when changing the email address (visible when the setting is enabled) and an icon with a tooltip next to the login field (from 2.35.1, visible when the Change login after email update setting is on).
The content of the email with the link confirming the new login is set in the message editor - in the login change message template.
The tooltip text next to the login field in the profile is the msg.profile.login.tooltip message (default values in Polish, English and German):
| Key |
Default value |
msg.profile.login.tooltip |
To change the login, change the e-mail address and then confirm the change via the link sent to the new e-mail |
