Order splitting in Hummerce lets store staff divide an already placed order into two separate orders, without cancelling it and having the customer place it again. It's useful, for example, when part of the goods is temporarily unavailable or the shipment has to go out in two batches.
As of Hummerce 2.18, updated 2026-09-29.
¶ Benefits and use cases
- Partial shipment without cancelling the order - the available goods ship right away, and the missing ones go into a separate order.
- Flexible handling of complaints and changes - staff split the order instead of negotiating a brand-new order with the customer.
- Full history and linked orders - both orders appear in the panel and the customer account as separate but mutually linked orders.
- An order can be split if it has more than one main item (sub-items of configurable sets don't count separately) and is in a status allowed for splitting - by default only placed.
- The allowed statuses are set in the configuration - several can be selected at once (e.g. placed, in progress, finished).
- In the order details, staff check a checkbox for the items to move and click Split order.
- The store creates a new order with a new symbol: the same customer, delivery method, payment and status as the source order, and the checked items from each cart go into the corresponding cart of the new order.
- The remaining items stay in the original order. From then on, both orders are visible separately in the panel and the customer account, while also being linked to each other (the Related order (source) field on the new order and Related orders (result) on the original - Additional information tab, see Managing orders in the panel).
- The new order's delivery cost and payment cost default to 0 - the Copy delivery price and Copy payment price settings can instead copy them from the source order.
- The order's parameters are copied to the new order, except for a list of skipped parameters (by default the loyalty program parameters - points, card, operation).
- The split is recorded in both orders' history, and the customer can receive an email about the new order and about the change to the source order - the same as for other order changes.
- The module has been available since version 2.18 (2017).
- 2.20 - fix for copying sub-items when splitting an order.
- No further changes recorded in the module since then.
- The statuses in which an order can be split - Order statuses.
- The loyalty program - its parameters are skipped by default when copying to the new order.
- Integrations that pass orders onward (ERP, couriers) must correctly handle two orders instead of one.
- Requires enabling the module - order splitting isn't active automatically after an update; it's enabled in the store configuration together with the allowed statuses and the rules for copying delivery and payment cost.
- Minimum estimated time: enabling the module with default settings - from 1 h.
- The time for a specific implementation depends on its scope - we quote it individually.
- What the time depends on: the number of statuses in which an order should be splittable, whether the delivery or payment cost needs to be copied to the new order, integrations that must correctly handle two orders instead of one (quoted separately).
- Only splits orders in the allowed statuses (by default only placed) and only those with more than one main item.
- The new order's delivery and payment cost default to zero unless copying them from the source order was enabled - this has to be accounted for in settlement.
- Loyalty program parameters aren't copied to the new order by default.
- The panel doesn't let split orders be merged back - undoing a split requires a manual correction.
- This is a different mechanism from multiple carts in one order: order splitting is done by staff in the panel after the order is placed, while multiple carts is the customer's choice in the cart before placing the order (see Carts, comparison table).
- We do not verify the configuration for legal compliance - how delivery and payment are settled between split orders is set by the store.
- Merging previously split orders back into one.
- Copying delivery and payment cost proportionally to the items moved, instead of a 0-or-100% choice.
- Splitting one order into more than two in a single action.
Can an already placed order be split into two in Hummerce?
Yes. Staff check the items to move to a new order in the panel and split the order with one command.
Is the feature available right after an update?
No. Order splitting requires enabling the module in the store configuration - it isn't active by default.
Can an order be split in any status?
No, only in statuses allowed in the configuration - by default only placed; the list can be extended.
Does the new order get its own delivery and payment cost?
By default no - the costs are 0, unless copying them from the source order was enabled.
How is order splitting different from multiple carts in one order?
Order splitting is performed by staff in the panel after the order is placed. Multiple carts is the customer's choice in the cart before placing the order - these are two independent mechanisms.
How long does enabling order splitting take?
From 1 h with default settings - more if the allowed statuses or the cost-copying rules need adjusting.

- Order details: checking items and the Split order button (available only for orders that meet the split conditions); the No items selected to split and The order has been split messages.
- Panel configuration: Configuration -> Settings, Order splitting group (the module requires enabling): Copy delivery price, Copy payment price, Possible order statuses (by default only placed), Skipped parameters (by default the loyalty program parameters).
- Order: the Related order (source) and Related orders (result) fields in the Additional information tab (Managing orders in the panel).
¶ REST API and MCP
- None - splitting an order is only available in the panel; the REST API and MCP don't expose this operation.
Splitting an order records an entry in both orders' history ("The order has been split") - see Change history. Emails to the customer about the new and the changed order are set up the same way as for other order changes - see Managing orders in the panel, Store messages section.
