¶ Minimum Order Quantity and Multiples - Bulk Packs
The minimum, maximum and multiple order quantity in Hummerce lets you define how many units of a product a customer can put in the cart - for example at least 6 units and always a multiple of 6, because the product is packed in cartons. The shop enforces these rules in the cart and at checkout, so your team does not have to fix orders that do not match the bulk pack.
As of Hummerce version 2.35 (feature available since version 2.22, latest changes: 2.35.25), updated 2026-10-16.
¶ Benefits and use cases
- Selling in bulk packs - a product can be bought only by the carton, shrink pack or pallet, e.g. 6, 12 or 24 units.
- Wholesale and B2B - a minimum order per product (e.g. from 10 units) protects your margin in offers for businesses. The feature is also useful in B2B sales and in shops for individual customers.
- Per-order limit - the maximum quantity restricts purchases of limited or low-stock products.
- Less manual correction - the customer gets a message right in the cart, and an order that breaks the rules cannot be placed.
- Rules once for the whole shop or per product - defaults in the configuration, exceptions on the product.
For each product you can set three values, each independently:
| Setting |
Meaning |
Example |
| Minimal quantity |
the least that can be bought |
6 |
| Quantity step of item (multiple) |
the quantity must be a multiple of this number |
6 - allowed: 6, 12, 18 |
| Maximal quantity |
the most that can be bought |
60 |
The minimum and maximum should be multiples of the step - the panel reminds you of this next to the fields.
- The value set on the product first.
- For a variant without its own value - the value from its article (Variants).
- If there is none - the default value from the shop configuration. The default maximum is 1,000,000; the minimum and the step are not set by default (no restriction).
Default values are shared by the whole shop - there are no separate ones per category, customer group or view.
- Cart - the quantity field rounds the entered number to the nearest allowed multiple, within the minimum and maximum. The plus and minus buttons change the quantity by a whole step.
- Product page - in templates with a quantity field, the field starts at the minimum quantity, and plus and minus change the quantity by the step.
- Messages - when the quantity breaks the rules, the customer sees a message with the product name and symbol and the allowed values. By default it is one message for all violations; the Single message setting lets you show separate messages for too small a quantity, too large a quantity and a wrong multiple.
- Checkout - a cart that breaks the rules cannot proceed; the customer gets the same messages.
¶ Variants, bundles and sales units
- Variants inherit the restrictions from the article unless they have their own.
- Bundles (combinations) - restrictions are skipped for them by default (the Ignore combinations option, since version 2.31). When the option is switched off, the shop checks limits for bundles too, and the Group items in cart option adds up the quantities of the same product added several times with different options. Bundle components have no limits of their own. For configurable products the restrictions do not apply by default.
- Sales units - limits apply to the number in the cart, regardless of the selected unit. Selling in several units (piece, carton) is described in Units of measure and sale - this page covers quantity restrictions only.
- The feature is available since version 2.22.
- Checking limits for bundles (the Ignore combinations option) - since version 2.31.
- Adding up quantities of the same product in the cart (the Group items in cart option) - since version 2.33.
- Latest changes to the feature: version 2.35.25.
- The feature works in a shop where the minimum / maximum / multiple quantity module has been enabled.
- The quantity field and the plus and minus buttons in the cart and on the product page depend on the shop template - the standard Bootstrap 5 cart is prepared.
- For selling in cartons and pallets - Units of measure and sale.
- Requires activation - the module has to be enabled in the shop during implementation; afterwards the values are set in the panel.
- The cart in the standard template works without template work. Custom product page or cart templates need adjusting so that the quantity field uses the configured limits.
- Minimum estimated time: enabling the module and setting the default values - from 2 h. Adapting custom templates is quoted separately.
- What the time depends on:
- the number of products that need limits,
- a custom product page or cart template,
- the number of languages in which messages are changed,
- shop version - an older version has to be updated first (quoted separately).
- Values are set on the product or as shop-wide defaults - there are no separate limits for a category, customer group or view.
- Limits apply to the product, not to the sales unit - you cannot set a different minimum for a piece and for a carton.
- Limits for bundles are off by default, and configurable products are not subject to them by default.
- Values are entered manually on products - the feature does not calculate the multiple from the pack or from the sales unit.
- The feature has no dedicated REST API operations or MCP server tools.
- The quantity field rounds the entered number to the nearest allowed multiple (up or down) - a customer entering 8 with a step of 6 gets 6.
- Limits set per category, customer group or view.
- Separate limits for each sales unit of a product.
- Support for limits in the REST API and through the AI assistant.
Can Hummerce sell a product only in packs of 6?
Yes. Set Quantity step of item to 6 (and usually Minimal quantity to 6) - the cart then accepts only multiples of 6.
Can the rules be set for the whole shop instead of product by product?
Yes. Default values are set in the shop configuration, and exceptions on the product. There are no separate values for categories or customer groups.
What does a customer see after entering a wrong quantity?
The quantity field in the cart rounds it to an allowed multiple, and the shop shows a message with the allowed values. An order that breaks the rules cannot be placed.
Do the restrictions cover variants and bundles?
Variants - yes, they inherit the values from the article. Bundles - not by default; checking for bundles is switched on with the Ignore combinations option.
How long does implementation take?
Enabling the module and setting default values - from 2 h. Adapting custom templates is quoted separately.
Which limitation do customers overlook most often?
Limits apply to the product, not to the sales unit - when selling in cartons, set the limits in the unit in which the customer enters the quantity.
