¶ Newsletter - sign-ups and consent in Hummerce
Newsletter in Hummerce lets customers sign up for and unsubscribe from the store's mailing with double opt-in email confirmation, and, since version 2.34, directly in the customer's profile, in the My newsletter section. A confirmed address goes straight into the store's customer database, ready to use in your own mailing or in an external marketing automation tool.
As of Hummerce 2.35 (consent management in the customer's profile since 2.34, the unsubscribe confirmation setting since 2.35.57), updated 2026-10-07. Double opt-in sign-up and unsubscribe is a core platform feature, available in all current versions.
¶ Benefits and use cases
- A contact list with no separate system - newsletter sign-up builds an address list directly in the store's customer database.
- Consent under the customer's control - sign-up and unsubscribe are confirmed by an email link (double opt-in), and since version 2.34 the customer can also change consent directly in their profile, without clicking an email link.
- A discount coupon as an incentive - the store can send an automatic, unique coupon after the sign-up is confirmed, see Coupons.
- A sign-up form anywhere in the template, plus a consent field directly in the cart and in the registration form - the customer signs up along the way, with no extra step.
- Consent ready to sync with external marketing automation tools, e.g. Edrone.

¶ Sign-up and confirmation (double opt-in)
- A customer without an account signs up with a form (email address, optionally other fields) - the store creates an account for them marked "newsletter only" and sends an email with a confirmation link.
- Only clicking the link confirms consent - until then the sign-up has only "wants to subscribe" status, not yet confirmed.
- Unsubscribing works the same way by default - a link in the email confirms opting out of the newsletter.
- From version 2.35.57 the store can change this with the Unsubscribe needs confirmation setting. With No, the unsubscribe request itself (e.g. unchecking consent in the profile) immediately clears newsletter consent and the sign-up request, and no email with a link is sent. With Yes (the default), the request only sends an email with a link, and consent changes only after it is clicked.
- The customer can also check the newsletter consent box when placing an order or in the registration form.
- A logged-in customer has a My newsletter section in their profile, where they check or uncheck newsletter consent directly.
- Before this, the profile only showed the consent status, with no way to change it in that place.
- The newsletter sign-up form can be placed anywhere in the store template (e.g. in the footer or as a separate section).
- By default, the newsletter consent field also appears in the order form and in the registration form.
- The store can turn on an automatic discount coupon sent by email after the sign-up is confirmed - the mechanism is described in Coupons, section "Coupon for newsletter sign-up". It only works on the old coupon mechanism.
- Newsletter sign-up and unsubscribe with double opt-in email confirmation - a core platform feature, available in all current versions.
- Managing consent directly in the customer's profile, in the My newsletter section - since version 2.34.
- The Unsubscribe needs confirmation setting (unsubscribing without an email with a link) - since version 2.35.57.
- The sign-up form (embedded in the template) and the consent field in the cart or registration - their presence and look depend on the store template.
- Sending the sign-up and unsubscribe confirmation emails requires configured message templates - see Email templates and alerts.
- The newsletter sign-up coupon requires the old coupon mechanism to be enabled, see Coupons.
- Syncing consent with an external marketing automation tool (e.g. Edrone) requires that integration.
Newsletter sign-up, unsubscribe, and consent in the profile (since version 2.34) work right after an update - they don't require implementation in the typical sense. Implementation is required for:
- adding the sign-up form in a place other than the default one in the template (e.g. footer, pop-up),
- a coupon for newsletter sign-up (campaign configuration in the old coupon mechanism),
- integration with an external mailing system or marketing automation tool.
Minimum estimated time:
- adding the sign-up form in a new place in the template - from 2 h,
- a newsletter sign-up coupon - from 2 h (campaign configuration, see Coupons),
- integration with an external mailing system (e.g. GetResponse) or marketing automation tool (e.g. Edrone) - quoted separately.
The time for a specific implementation depends on its scope - we quote it individually.
- Sign-up from outside the customer's account (a public form) is always confirmed by an email link (double opt-in) - until then, consent isn't active. Unsubscribing is confirmed by a link by default; the Unsubscribe needs confirmation setting lets you switch this off.
- The newsletter sign-up coupon only works on the old coupon mechanism, see Coupons.
- We do not verify the configuration for legal compliance (GDPR, consent wording, store terms of service) - the legal basis for processing data and the wording of the consent are set by the store.
- A newsletter sign-up coupon on the new coupon mechanism (see Future development in Coupons).
- Splitting consent into separate categories (e.g. a general newsletter and offers for a chosen category, separately).
Does newsletter sign-up require email confirmation?
Yes. Sign-up from outside the customer's account is confirmed by clicking a link in an email (double opt-in). Unsubscribing is by default too, but from version 2.35.57 you can switch this off with the Unsubscribe needs confirmation setting.
Can a customer change their newsletter consent themselves in their account?
Yes, since version 2.34. In the My newsletter section of the profile, the customer checks or unchecks consent directly.
Can the store give a discount coupon for newsletter sign-up?
Yes, but only through the old coupon mechanism - see Coupons.
Is newsletter consent GDPR-compliant?
We do not verify legal compliance. The module records consent and lets the customer withdraw it, while the legal basis for processing and the wording of the consent are set by the store.
How long does it take to add the sign-up form in a new place in the template?
From 2 h - depends on the place and look in the store template.

- Module configuration: settings of the newsletter sign-up plugin - among others, the list of extra sign-up form fields, form mode (one step or three steps), the sign-up pop-up (whether to show it and after how long), the pop-up cookie lifetime (30 and 365 days by default), the templates for the sign-up and unsubscribe confirmation emails, and the Unsubscribe needs confirmation setting (default Yes; since version 2.35.57).
- Customer profile: the Newsletter / My newsletter section - consent visible and editable (since version 2.34).
- Admin panel: the Newsletter consent field when editing customer data.
- Admin action: generating confirmation addresses for existing customers after a data import - "Create confirmation addresses for the mailing list".
¶ REST API and MCP
- No confirmed, dedicated REST API or MCP operations for newsletter sign-up and unsubscribe - customer consent is a regular customer parameter, available through the standard customer operations in the REST API.
Default values are in Polish and English. They are changed in the message editor and in the email templates.
