¶ Blog and news - posts with categories and scheduling

The blog in Hummerce is the store's news module: posts with an image, a teaser and categories, under their own blog address, with the option to schedule publication for a chosen day. Store staff run it in the panel without a developer, and the store gains content that attracts search traffic and builds customer trust.

¶ Benefits and use cases

Content in the same place as the store - guides, news, collection descriptions and customer announcements on the same domain as the offer.
Search traffic - every post has its own address, title and meta tags; see SEO overview and the B2C pillar.
Post categories with an image (separate for desktop and mobile) and a description - a clear topic structure.
Scheduled publishing - a post prepared in advance appears in the store after its publication date.
Highlighted post at the top of the blog main page.
Language versions - the post title and content can be translated into the store's other languages.

¶ How it works

¶ A post is a News-type page

A blog post is a static page of the NEWS type. It is created in the panel under Contents -> News, or with Add news page - the same list and form as for static pages, with blog-specific fields. A post has a symbol, title, teaser, photo, content in the content editor and, optionally, contents added to the page.

The news list in the panel shows a category column and can be filtered by category.

¶ Blog categories

Categories are a separate dictionary in the panel: Contents -> News categories. A category has a name, a title, Category image desktop, Category image mobile, Category description, visibility and meta tags (META: Keywords, META: description). A post can belong to several categories at once (the Blog category field). Only categories marked as visible appear in the store.

¶ Addresses

The blog main page has an address ending in /blog.
A post has an address of the form .../blog/post/<post symbol> and a category .../blog/cat/<category symbol> - the symbol is set by store staff when the post or category is created.
When someone opens a post with the ordinary static page address, the store redirects them to the blog address with a permanent (301) redirect, which protects search ranking.
A non-existent category shows a 404 error page.

Blog addresses do not use the friendly links mechanism generated from object names - see SEO overview.

¶ What the customer sees

Blog main page: a highlighted post at the top (the newest one with Show on main page ticked), then a list of the remaining posts with an image, categories, date, teaser and a "more" button. Breadcrumbs are added automatically.
Category page: the category image and description, a list of posts from that category and a menu of all visible categories.
Post page: photo, title, categories, date, teaser and content.
The date shown with a post is its creation date, and posts are displayed newest first.

¶ List and pagination

The post list is split into pages. The number of posts per page is the Max news amount setting, 3 by default. The order and extra criteria of the list are set by Blog posts criteria; by default posts are sorted newest first. The "Previous" and "Next" buttons and page numbers appear when there are more posts than the per-page limit.

¶ Scheduled publishing

On a post, set Publish date and leave the post invisible in the store. The Blog publish task runs once a day at 1:00 in the panel, finds invisible posts whose publication date has passed and makes them visible. The change is saved in the post's history.

So a post appears in the store at the next run of the task, not to the minute of the chosen date.

¶ Title and meta tags

The page title, META: Keywords and META: description of a post come from its own fields, as do the robots settings (No index for robots, Robots noFollow) and redirect, available in the post form like for other pages. The blog main page uses the settings of the static page with the symbol blogMainPage, and the category page uses the category data.

¶ Version

The blog has been part of the platform since version 2.27. Last changes to the feature: 2.34.21 (correct behaviour for an invalid category address).

¶ Dependencies

Static pages - a post is a News-type page (Static pages).
Scheduled publishing also requires the post publishing module to be enabled.
Post language versions - Multilingual store.

¶ Implementation

The blog module must be enabled in the store configuration. Blog views are ready in the Bootstrap 5 and Bootstrap 4 templates.
Scheduled publishing is a separate module - enabled separately from the blog.
Minimum estimated time: from 3 h - enabling the modules, adding a blog link to the menu or footer, creating categories and a first post, and checking the look in the standard template.
What the time depends on: the number of store languages, adapting the look of the list and post to the store identity, preparing category images, store version (upgrade priced separately).

The store does not add a blog link to the menu by itself - the implementer places it.

¶ Limitations

The blog works in the Bootstrap 5 and Bootstrap 4 templates; other templates need frontend work.
Scheduled publishing runs once a day (at 1:00) and only for invisible posts with a publication date filled in.
The date shown with a post and the order come from the creation date, not the publication date.
Blog addresses are not generated from object names - they contain the post or category symbol.
Pagination shows 3 posts per page by default - we recommend setting a higher limit.
Posts are not separate results of the store search (Search).
A post has no link to products as standard - the standard template does not show products assigned to a post.
No comments on posts in the standard template.
The AI assistant (MCP) reads posts but does not create them - the page tools are read-only.
We do not verify post content for legal compliance (e.g. photo licences, GDPR).

¶ Frequently asked questions

Does Hummerce have a built-in blog?
Yes. The blog module provides a post list, categories, post pages and a blog main page at an address ending in /blog, in the Bootstrap 5 and Bootstrap 4 templates.

Can I schedule a post?
Yes. Set Publish date and leave the post invisible - after that date the store publishes it at the next run of the task (once a day at 1:00). This requires the publishing module to be enabled.

Can a post have several categories?
Yes. The Blog category field accepts multiple categories.

Is the blog multilingual?
Partly. The post title and content can be translated into the store languages, and the blog messages have an English version. The teaser and photo of a post have no separate language versions.

How long does blog implementation take?
The simplest implementation is from 3 h. The time depends on the number of languages, the look adaptation and the store version.

Do posts have nice addresses with the title?
No. The address contains the post symbol (e.g. .../blog/post/post-name) set at creation, not an automatically generated title.

¶ Panel access

Posts: Contents -> News; new post: Add news page. Post fields: Title, News headline, News photo, Page content, Blog category, Show on main page, Publish date, META: Keywords, META: description, No index for robots, Robots noFollow, Redirect, Redirect code.
Categories: Contents -> News categories.
List settings: Max news amount (default 3) and Blog posts criteria (default newest first) - in the store configuration.
Publishing task: Blog publish task - in the task list in the panel, once a day at 1:00.

¶ REST API and MCP

REST API: pages (list, get, create, update, delete) with page type News.
MCP: tools ec2_pages_list and ec2_pages_get (read-only, pages permission) - a list of pages with type and visibility, and the content of a chosen page.
