¶ Hummerce glossary - key terms and concepts
The Hummerce glossary collects, in one place, the terms that recur throughout this documentation and in the admin panel of the Hummerce e-commerce platform - each with a link to its full description. It's useful when another documentation page uses a name you want to check without interrupting your reading.

¶ Catalog and configurators
- Article and variant - an article is an item with any number of variants (e.g. size, color), and a variant is a single instance of that article. See Variants - Article and Sub-Items.
- Property - a field describing an item, customer, category or other object in the store and in search - e.g. color, material, description. See Properties and locations - flexible fields in Hummerce.
- Multi-view property - a property that stores a separate value for each store view (e.g. a different item name or photo in the B2B and B2C views); when a view has no value of its own, the store shows the value from the default view. See Views - several stores in one panel.
- Property location - a place in an object (e.g. a form, an item description) that properties are assigned to - it decides which fields appear, and in what order. See Properties and locations - flexible fields in Hummerce.
- Virtual category - a category that collects items matching a saved criterion (e.g. price, a property, a producer) on its own, and updates its contents itself, without manually assigning items - also called a smart category. See Virtual categories - automatic item grouping.
- Configurable product - a regular store item with the configurable set feature turned on, and a list of components the customer picks or fills in before ordering. See Product configurators - overview.
- Component - a single element of a configurable product: an item picked from a list (e.g. fabric, fitting) or a property filled in by the customer (text, photo, dimension, number). See Product configurators - overview.
- Saved configuration - the result of configuring a product, remembered by the customer or the store, that can be revisited, edited in the cart, or reordered. See Saved Configurations - Save, Edit and Reorder.
- Preset - a regular catalog product that points to a saved configuration - the customer buys it with one click, without going through the configurator, and can still change it in the configurator before adding it to the cart. See Saved Configurations - Save, Edit and Reorder.
¶ Sales, customers and companies
- View - a version of the store (e.g. retail, wholesale, a foreign version) on a shared panel, catalog and customer base, with its own language, currency, assortment, prices, delivery and payments. See Views - several stores in one panel.
- Company account - an account linking several employees of one company: shared prices, shared delivery addresses, and visibility into the whole company's orders. See Company Accounts - B2B Account for Multiple Employees.
- Company account manager - a role within a company account that sees the company's employees' orders and can approve, cancel or pay for them. See Approving company orders - B2B spending control.
- Quote - the store's response to a customer's request for the price of a non-standard product (custom-made, configured, or a large quantity); the customer then orders at the quoted price. See Quotes - Request for Quote (RFQ).
- Offer - a document with its own pricing that a business customer (e.g. an installer, a distributor) prepares in their account for their own buyer, using the store's products. See Offers - an Offer Document for B2B Customers.
- Price list - a set of prices for the same item for a selected customer, company, customer group or store view, instead of one price for everyone. See Price Lists and Individual Prices for B2B Customers.
- Price list rule - a rule that decides which customer gets a price from which price list. See Price list rules - prices by customer, group and view.
- Cart promotion - a rule calculated from the whole cart's contents (value, item count, delivery, payment, customer, purchase time), rather than a single item. See Cart Promotions - Discounts Based on the Cart.
- Coupon - a code the customer enters in the cart (or receives in a link) to get a discount from a previously prepared coupon campaign. See Coupons - Discount Codes for Store Customers.
¶ Content and appearance
- Content / canvas - a canvas is a place on the page defined in the template (e.g. the homepage, the header, the footer), and content is the specific thing shown in that place: text, an image, a banner, or a reference to an item or category. See Canvases and Contents - Homepage Content Without a Developer.
- BS5 / BS4 template - the base Hummerce store frontend; BS5 is the newer, faster template, without the jQuery library, with components built in Svelte (including the configurators), which replaced the older template based on Bootstrap 4. See Bootstrap 5 Store Template - Modern Hummerce Frontend.
- Alert - the element that decides when a given email is sent (e.g. order confirmation, a status change); what goes into the email is set separately, by the template assigned to the alert. See Email Templates and Alerts - Store Email Content.
¶ Administration and integrations
- Transfer - importing or exporting store data (items, stock levels, customers and other objects) as an Excel or XML file, available under the Data transfer tab in the panel. See Data Transfer - Import and Export in Hummerce.
- MCP (Model Context Protocol - MCP server, AI assistant) - the mechanism connecting an AI assistant (e.g. Claude) directly to the store: store staff type a plain-language instruction, and the assistant reads data or makes changes with the permissions of the account it's connected with. See AI assistant - MCP server.
- Maintenance mode - a feature that lets an admin report a visual bug directly from the store page, by marking the part of the screen where something is not working correctly. See Maintenance Mode - Report Bugs Right from the Store.
- Change history (audit log) - a record of changes in the store (admin logins, changes to orders, items, customers, configuration), with the option to filter and archive. See Change History - Store Change Audit in Hummerce.
- Admin permissions (role) - a role with access to selected menu items and views in the panel; an admin sees only what their role allows. See Admin Permissions - Roles and Permissions in the Panel.
Does this glossary replace the full description of a feature?
No. Each entry is one sentence and a link to the page with the full description - the glossary only helps you quickly recall what a term means.
Are the terms in this glossary shown as-is in the panel?
Not always - the panel shows the admin interface labels, which are not always worded the same way as the terms used in this documentation.
What if a term isn't in this glossary?
Check the overview page for the area it belongs to (e.g. Catalog and Assortment, Pricing Policy) - each one links to every page on that topic.
